Henrietta B. Evans

Henrietta B. (Wagner) Evans was born to Frederick and Avis (Miller) Wagner on March 29, 1923 near Graf, Nebraska. She graduated from Tecumseh Public Schools in 1939. She obtained her teaching certificate at Peru State College and her nursing diploma as part of the Cadet Nurse Corps through Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, completing her training at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

Henrietta married Jack Lorin Evans on June 14, 1947 in Hiawatha, Kansas. They had four children: Linda, Sandra, Judy and Tom. Linda and her husband Gary George live in Auburn, Indiana, Sandra and her husband Skip Wolff live in Bennington, Judy and her husband John Wunder live in Omaha and Tom and his wife Cindy reside in Firth. The family has been blessed with 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Henrietta is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends, and in-laws, Lloyd and Shirley Evans of Tecumseh.

Henrietta began her nursing career working at the J.A. Lanspa private hospital in Tecumseh moving to the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh when it opened in 1958. There she served as Director of Nursing for many years. During her nursing career, she also served as school nurse for the Tecumseh Public Schools. Henrietta was active in the First Presbyterian Church serving on the session and being an active member of the Presbyterian Women. In her spare time, Henrietta enjoyed camping with her family, quilting, doing crossword puzzles using a pen, (rather than using a pencil), baking, watching all Husker sports and spending lots of time with her many grandchildren.

Henrietta passed away Dec. 12, 2013 at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh where she had dedicated over 30 years of her life, at the age of 90 years. She was preceded in death by her parents Frederick and Avis, sister, Julia Ann Eminger and brother, Frederick "Junior" Wagner.

Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013 with Rev. Tim McClain officiating. Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Monday, December 16, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church.
