Dorothy Alberta Farwell

Dorothy “Dode” Alberta (Wissler) Farwell, 93, of Humboldt, Nebraska, formerly of DuBois, Nebraska,  passed away on Monday, September 19, 2016 at Colonial Acres, Humboldt, Nebraska. Dorothy was born northeast of DuBois on December 3, 1922 to William G. and Lydia (Rist) Wissler.  She was baptized at the United Brethen Church in DuBois, March 6, 1932 at the age of nine.  Dorothy became a member March 27, 1932 and transferred membership to the United Methodist Church  in 1968.

In the 1930’s she played trumpet in an all girls orchestra.  Following her high school graduation in 1940, she worked for County Judge Charles M. Hurd in Pawnee City.  On June 14, 1942, she married her childhood sweetheart, Lyle Farwell.  They started kindergarten and graduated from high school together.  To this union four children were born, Pamela, Diane, Patricia and Douglas.  In 1992 they received the Nebraska Pioneer family Award for the farm being in the family for one hundred years.

Dorothy was an active member of the church and Sunday School until later years.  She was a former member of the Pythian Sisters and FUN clubs.  She enjoyed reading, traveling, dancing and needle work.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle and her parents, William and Lydia Wissler.

She is survived by her children; Pam (Joe) Allison of Auburn, NE, Diane (Richard) Allison of Seneca, KS, Patricia Farwell of Omaha, NE, Doug Farwell of DuBois, NE, grandchildren; Patrick (Kristen) Allison, Jennifer Allison (Merrill Swartz), Craig Allison, Brian Allison, great grandchildren; Bryce & Brooklyn Allison, Emma & Evelyn Allison & Madison & Reed Swartz, sister-in-law, Avis Uhri, nephew and nieces and friends.

Funeral services 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the DuBois United Methodist Church, DuBois, Nebraska.  Officiating Reverend Sherry  Sklenar.     Visitation on Friday, September 23, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska.  Interment at the DuBois Cemetery.  Memorials the DuBois United Methodist Church and/or Pawnee Memorial Hospital.  Online condolences  may be left at www.wherrymortuary.com.
