Wilma Jeanette Cumro, 95, of Summerfield, Kansas passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Cambridge Place in Marysville, Kansas. She was born near Burchard, Nebraska on February 10, 1927 to Lawrence and Anna (Ullman) Fisher. Wilma's parents were farmers and she spent much of her childhood on a farm south of Steinauer, Nebraska. There she learned the value of hard work.
Wilma was united in marriage to Dr. Dennis E. Cumro at St. Anthony's Catholic Church on October 24, 1959 in Steinauer. To this union four children were born: Dennis, Janelle, Gary, and Debra. Wilma was a wife, a mother, a homemaker, and an office manager for her husband's veterinary practice in Summerfield.
Wilma's life was her family. She bandaged many scraped knees and attended many school programs over the years. Her granddaughters, Leana and Carolyn enjoyed mini-vacations with Grandma during which they often had a fun time making and eating cookies and doing crafts. Wilma's hobbies included sewing, quilting, bird watching, canning, cooking, and gardening. She spent many happy hours tending her beautiful flower gardens. Wilma sewed many of her childrens' clothes and happily quilted away while her fingers allowed her to do so. Over her lifetime Wilma made over 25 quilts. Especially in her later years, Wilma looked forward to visits from family and friends. Grandma hosted all of the big holidays dinners and her turkey dressing was always a big hit. Wilma led a fairly active life into her early 90s including driving to church on Sundays. The last year of her life was filled with health issues. She was a proud mistress of a Manx cat named Button.
Wilma was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, the Holy Family Altar Society, and the Red Hat Society. She attended the monthly meetings with her Red Hat friends until the last few years of her life.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dennis E. Cumro; a son, Gary Cumro; brothers, Virgil, Robert, Kenneth, and Marion; and sisters Geraldine Kohel, Mary Wichman, and Doris Fiegener.
She is survived by her son Dennis L. Cumro; daughters Janelle (Michael) Wolt and Debra Cumro; daughter-in-law Sharon Cumro; granddaughters, Leana (Jordan) Pullen and Carolyn (Adam) Gehringer; great-granddaughters, Margaret and Catherine Gehringer; brother-in-law, Maurice Cumro; sisters-in-law, Lucille Fisher, Judy Fisher, Nancy Fisher and Sandy Cumro.
