William Bohling Obituary

William Walter Bohling was born August 2, 1952 to Walter and Rosa Pearl (Moody) Bohling in Auburn, Nebraska. He grew up on a farm southwest of Auburn.  Bill was baptized and confirmed at the St. Paul’s (Hickory Grove) Lutheran Church, rural Auburn, Nebraska. He attended District #72 Happy Valley through the 7th grade and later graduated from Auburn High School in 1970.  He continued his education at Peru State College where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Industrial Technology and also a minor in Computer Science in 1978.

Bill was united in marriage to Alta Marie Eisenhauer on August 26, 1972 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Cook, Nebraska.  This union was blessed with four children, Anthony, Curtis, Eliot and Crystal.

Bill taught Industrial Technology at Ruskin High School, taught evening classes at various community colleges for a couple years, served as the Village of Cook Superintendent for four years, taught Industrial Tech at Malvern, IA and Nebraska City and taught math at Dawson-Verdon and Pawnee City.  He retired from teaching after 13 years at Pawnee City.  Bill taught drivers’ education at several schools and EMT classes for the Cook Rescue Squad.  He was a member of the Peru and Cook Fire Departments and the Cook Rescue Squad for 13 years.  Bill also worked maintenance at the Cooper Nuclear Station at Brownville.  He was a 4-H Leader and raised Brown Swiss cattle.  Bill and Alta worked side by side with their children to build their new home in 1993.

He became a member of Grace Lutheran Church in 1981 where he served as council president, Sunday School Superintendent and sang in the choir.  He was also a member of the Apple Core Barbershop Choir in Nebraska City. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He and Alta loved camping with their family, at first tent camping and later especially taking the 5th wheel camper to Harlan County Lake along with their pontoon boat.  He enjoyed fixing and repairing his own vehicles and woodworking. Bill loved continuing the Bohling family tradition of taffy pulling with his family between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
