He graduated from Cook High School in 1963 and married Marianne Poppe on October 6, 1963. Wayne was self-employed his whole life focusing on farming, construction, finish-carpentry and raising cattle.

He loved supporting his grandchildren in their extra curricular activities including sports, show choir, boys choir, dance, and archery. In his younger years, fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball were his hobbies and he enjoyed golf later in life. Wayne looked forward to breakfast with friends at the bowling alley in Tecumseh, afternoons with his dogs (Otis and Molly) and social hour later in the afternoon.
