Timothy McCoy Obituary

Timothy Lee McCoy was born to Delvin and Shirley (Hoyt) McCoy on January 17, 1954 in Pawnee City, Nebraska.  He was baptized at the Christian Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska. He grew up in Tecumseh and graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1972.  After high school, Tim went to electrical school for a brief time and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy on September 26, 1973.  He served in the Seabees until his honorable discharge on September 30, 1993.  He did his boot camp in San Diego, CA and then went to A School in Port Hueneme, CA and served at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Columbus, OH. He served for 7 years prior to his marriage.                              

Tim was united in marriage to LuAnn Othmer on December 19, 1980 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Elk Creek, Nebraska.  After their wedding, the couple moved to Jacksonville, FL, then Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada, where son Heath was born, Crane, Indiana, where son Brandon was born and finally Port Hueneme, CA where son Lance was born. 

After his 20 years of military service, Tim and LuAnn moved back Tecumseh and Tim worked for Larry’s OK Tires, TO Haas Tire and then began work for the State of Nebraska as a concrete inspector until his retirement. 

In his spare time, Tim enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, pheasant and quail hunting and family time with his sons and grandkids.  Tim was an avid Husker football fan as well enjoyed following the NFL and NASCAR racing.

He passed away February 20, 2023 at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh at the age of 69 years.

Tim is survived by his wife LuAnn of rural Tecumseh, sons Heath McCoy of Tecumseh, Brandon McCoy and wife Shelby of Elk Creek and Lance McCoy of Tecumseh, grandchildren, Bo McCoy, Riley McCoy, Josie McCoy and Harper McCoy, brother Shane McCoy and wife Heidi of Tucson, AZ, sister Teresa Schneider of Lincoln, parents-in-law, Les and Lois Othmer of Tecumseh, brothers and sisters in law, Lavon and Lisa Othmer of Tecumseh and LaDonna and Tim Putnam of Lincoln and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Don Schneider.   

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2023 at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, rural Elk Creek, Nebraska with Rev. Bill Cornelius officiating. The service was livestreamed on the St. Peter's Facebook page and a link to the livestream is available at the bottom of Tim's webpage.   

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.

Memorials may go to the family's choice.

Interment will be in the St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elk Creek, Nebraska with full military rites by the Navy Funeral Honors Team and the Tecumseh VFW and American Legion Posts.
