Terry L. Helms

Terry L. Helms was the third of five sons born to Howard and Audrey (McMann) Helms in Auburn, Nebraska. He grew up in Auburn and attended Auburn Public Schools. In the '60s and 70's Terry and his family enjoyed participating in rodeos and going to horse shows. He worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator driving a road grader for Otoe County. Later he went on the road as a crane operator.

He was united in marriage to Gloria B. Helms on April 18, 1978 in Rockport, MO. They made their home in Cook, Nebraska. Terry enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, and time with family. Terry loved going to flea markets, watching game shows and westerns and doing crossword puzzles. Terry was a wonderful care giver for his wife Gloria until her passing on February 9, 2022. Terry especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Terry passed away May 25, 2022 at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, at the age of 80 years.

He is survived by his daughters, Sheryl Gardner and husband Gene of Cook, Kristine Gerking and husband Les of Cook, Julie Allberry of Florida and Khristy Adams and husband Alan of LaVista, sons, David Thomas of Cook, Donald Call and wife Michaela of Fairbury, daughter-in-law, Karen Thomas of Cook, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, brother Rick Helms and wife Laddie of Auburn, nieces, nephews and friends.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Gloria, brothers, Merlin, Don and Ross Helms, sons, Timothy and Ronald Thomas, granddaughter Colleen Gerking and grandson Derek Thomas.

Private family graveside services will be held at the Cook Cemetery, Cook, Nebraska. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.
