Steven A. Burger

Steven Allen Burger, 73, of Dunbar, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2025 at the Tabitha Journey House in Lincoln, Nebraska.  He was born to Merle E. and Melva Jean (Bockus) Burger on November 9, 1951 in Pawnee City, Nebraska.

Steven served his country in the United States Navy and was the State Service Officer for the American Legion for 20 years. During that time, Steven made several trips to Washington D.C. with the other men and women involved, who pushed through legislation for veterans to receive compensation for contracting Agent Orange during the Vietnam War.  In his later years, Steven enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, including Kansas City Royals baseball, basketball, soccer and WWE wrestling. 

He is survived by his wife Kathy Bethel of Dunbar, children Matthew Burger and wife Tammy of Lincoln, Sarah Burger and fiance' Mike Gattenby of Independence, MO and Aaron Burger and wife Nicole of Dunegal, Ireland, grandchildren, Allen Edwards, Tonya Sears, Joslynn Behrends, Collin Rees, Charlotte Ulfers, Gunnar Burger, Cheshire Burger, Theresa Doiel and Lowix Burger, great-grandchildren, Tristan, Austin and Lilly Edwards, Aurora and Juniper Sears and Avery and Chandler Behrends, sisters, Phyllis Renz and husband Steve of Superior, Ella Wathor and husband Curt of Peculiar, MO and Patricia "Patty" Therien and husband Greg of Oklahoma City, OK, sisters-in-law, Michelle Burger of Omaha and Debbie Burger of Council Bluffs, IA and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Steven was preceded in death by his parents, son Steven G. Burger and brothers David Burger and wife Denise and Danny Burger.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Steinauer, Nebraska with Father Michael Christensen officiating. 

A register book will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.
