Stanley Osterhoudt Obituary

Stanley Edward Osterhoudt, 71, of Tecumseh, Nebraska, passed away May 27, 2021 at his home in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  He was born to Edward and Ruth (Pratt) Osterhoudt on May 16, 1950 in Kingston, New York.  He attended schools in New York before his entrance into the U.S. Marine Corps on July 31, 1967.  He served his country during the Vietnam Conflict in active duty until transferring to the Marine Corps Reserves in 1971.  He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps on July 24, 1973. Stan received the Good Conduct Medal, Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry medals for his service in Vietnam.  He later served in the U.S. Army from 1974 until his retirement in 1996. 

 He was united in marriage to Donna Hergott on September 4, 1971 in Alexandria, Nebraska. This union was blessed with five children, Denise, Keith, Julie, Paul and Mike.  After he completed his service obligations, Stan and Donna moved to Tecumseh.  Stan began employment as a mechanic for Brinkman Brothers where he worked for 25 years.  He served on the Ambulance/Tecumseh Rescue Squad for many years, was Civil Defense Director and was a member of the Tecumseh Fire Department where he also served as Fire Chief.  Stan ran for Johnson County Sheriff and served two four-year terms from 1993-2001.  When he wasn’t serving others in his community, Stan loved fishing, especially bass fishing at Burchard Lake.  In his younger days, he loved racing his car on the Accord Speedway in New York.

Stan is survived by his loving wife, Donna (Hergott) Osterhoudt of Tecumseh,  children, Denise and Jim Larimore of Louisiana, Keith Osterhoudt of Alabama, Julie and Doug Kuhl of Tecumseh, Paul Osterhoudt of Ralston and Mike Osterhoudt of Lincoln, grandchildren, Dillion and Cait Larimore, Tanner and Kayla Larimore, Spencer and Gracie Kuhl, Samantha Kuhl, Zachary Osterhoudt, Emmali Osterhoudt and Hannah Osterhoudt, great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, McKinley, Hadley, Logan and Daxton, sister, Beverly Demorest of New York, brother, Douglas Osterhoudt and wife Nancy of N. C., and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Charlotte and grandchildren Mathew and Nicholas. 

A Celebration of Life Reception will be held on Stan and Donna's 50th anniversary, from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the First Baptist Activity Center in Tecumseh, Nebraska.

Inurnment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2021 in the National Veterans Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska with full military honors by the U.S. Marine Corps Funeral honors team.
