Sally Hutt Obituary

Sally Ann (Blessing) Hutt was born to Charles “Chuck” and Donita (Wiltfang-Stull) Blessing on March 8, 1952 in Tecumseh, Nebraska. She grew up in Tecumseh and graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1970.  Sally continued her education at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where she received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and later her master’s degree in special education.

She married her high school sweetheart, James Stewart Hutt on July 15, 1972 at the United Methodist Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  To this union were born Ann Elizabeth Hutt and Robert Stewart Hutt.

Jim and Sally made their home in Lincoln for a few years where she taught for Lincoln Public Schools.  They returned to Tecumseh and Sally taught at St. Andrew Catholic School and Tecumseh Public School which later became Johnson County Central Schools.  Sally retired from teaching in 2015.  Sally received the Nebraska Teacher of the Year Award and also The American Legion Teacher of the Year.  She was a member of the Apple Valley Reading Association.

In addition to teaching Sally was involved with her church as a lay leader, an officer with the Martha Circle with funeral luncheons, served on church council, sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School and VBS for many years. She was active in the Tecumseh community with the Johnson County Backpack program, Meals on Wheels, VFW And American Legion Auxiliary and the SENCA Advisory Board. Sally was the secretary of the JCC School Foundation.

Sally and Jim enjoyed going to the lake in Minnesota to fish during the summers and gardening.  Sally was a loving, caring, genuine friend to everyone she met.  The world would be a better place if we all made it our goal to “Live like Sally.”  In Sally’s honor and memory, share a smile, give a hug, be humble, be kind, make someone else feel special, and volunteer.
