Robert L Snyder

Robert Snyder, 82, of Odell, Nebraska passed away Monday, July 1, 2019.

Robert was born to Cyril and Alvina (Wolf) Snyder in rural Pawnee City, Nebraska.  The fourth of five children, Robert lived most of his childhood on a farm near Pawnee City.

In his youth, Robert enjoyed the outdoors, playing the tuba in band, and playing basketball and football.  He was even being recruited to play college football.  However, ready to be done with classrooms, Robert chose employment instead, and also served his country in the Army reserves.      

While working for the railroad, Robert met his future wife, Peggy on a blind date.  They married on July 24, 1960.  From this union came three sons and two daughters.  

After a few years, Robert began a job at Consumers Public Power District, which later became Nebraska Public Power district.  He worked there more than 30 years, until his retirement in 1999.  

Retirement provided Robert the opportunity to pursue his life-long passion of farming full-time.  He remained active in farming until the day of his death.

Robert is known for his kind heart, strong work ethic, and always helping others.  Most importantly, anyone who knew Robert, also knows his love for family and friends.  Although a quiet man, Robert loved gatherings, and especially loved spoiling the little ones.  He also was one to call on in times of need.  He would drop whatever he was doing to help others.

Robert is survived by his children, Robert “Lee” Snyder, Jr. (June), Ralph Snyder (Julie), Ryan Snyder (Deb), and Barbara Tegley (Tom); his 14 grand-children; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis Hoffman, Celia Standerford; brother, Allen Snyder.

Robert is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Peggy Snyder; parents, Cyril and Alvina Snyder; brother, Frank Snyder.

Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the Living Life Reformed Church, Firth, Nebraska. Officiating Reverend Mark Starr. Register book available for signing from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Visitation an hour before the services at 10:00 a.m. at the Church.  Interment at 3 p.m. at the Pawnee City Cemetery, Pawnee City, Nebraska.  Memorials to Living Life Reformed Church, Firth, Nebraska. Online condolences may be left at www.wherrymortuary.com.  Services are entrusted to Wherry Mortuary, Pawnee City, Nebraska.
