Richard LaVern Parks was born to LaVern and Luella (Hoffman) Parks on April 27, 1942 in Pawnee City, NE and passed away September 5, 2022 surrounded by family in Basehor, Kansas.
Dick graduated from Pawnee City High School and then married Patricia Joe Habegger on June 3, 1960. Dick worked in many careers throughout his life. He worked for the Soil Conservation Service in Pawnee County, Hebron, NE and then Lincoln, NE. In 1969 Dick returned to Pawnee City where he became a salesman for Moorman’s Feed and then went to work at the Pawnee County Bank until May of 1984. Dick spent a brief time working at the Bucklin, Missouri bank and then started working for the FDIC in October of 1985. Dick was then transferred to Kansas City and worked for the FDIC until the Resolution and Trust department was dissolved in 1995. Dick worked briefly at a car dealership and then became a manager of the Sac & Fox Casino as a vault manager. From 1997 until his retirement in 2010, Dick worked for Sheet Metal Contractors of Olathe, KS as the office manager.
Dick enjoyed raising and showing quarter horses. Many weekends were spent taking Deb and Jeff around to participate in horse show competitions. Dick was very involved in the Pawnee County Fair Board, Jaycee’s and the Soil Conservation Service board. Dick enjoyed supporting his children and later his grandchildren in all their activities.
Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Patty of Basehor, KS; daughter Deborah (Roger) Rossmeier of Lynch, NE; daughter-in-law, Kay Parks of Basehor, KS; granddaughters; McKenna Rossmeier of Tyndall, SD; Madison (Jacob) Bathke of Niobrara, NE; grandson, Kyle Fenway (Dani) Parks of Arden, NC; brother, Joel (Kathy) Parks of Fremont, NE, brother-in-law, Ronald (Judy) Habegger of Pawnee City, NE niece, Alisha Parks of Chicago, IL and nephews, Ehren Parks of Fremont, NE, Larry (Deb) Habegger; Mike (Juli) Habegger, Chuck Habegger of Pawnee City, Scott Habegger of Leavenworth, KS and many cousins and friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents LaVern and Luella Parks, in-laws, Charles and Marie Habegger, sister, Margene Parks, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Marceille Habegger and he will be reunited with his son Jeffrey Parks who passed away 1-1-2021.
Memorial service 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Salem U.C.C. Church, rural Steinauer, Nebraska. Officiating Reverend Ken Tubbesing. The service was also live-streamed on Wherry Mortuary/Wherry Monument Facebook page and a link to the livestream is now available on the bottom of Dick's webpage. Inurnment will be at the Pawnee City Cemetery, Pawnee City, Nebraska at 2:00 p.m. Memorials to family choice.
