Richard Mathis Obituary

Richard Dean Mathis, 83, of Tecumseh, passed away April 4, 2018 at Belle Terrace in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  He was born to Andy and Almeta (Ernst) Mathis on July 1, 1934 in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  He attended elementary school and through his Junior year of high school in Tecumseh.  In 1951, Dean moved to Lincoln to work for Western Electric Company.  He attended night school and graduated from Lincoln High School.   He also later took some classes at Peru State College. 

He was united in marriage to Nina M. Andersen on September 18, 1955 at Wahoo, Nebraska.  To this union one son, Richard "Rick" Lee was born.  

Dean worked for C.A. Swanson Company which later became Campbell Soup Company in Tecumseh, as a Wireman at Western Electric Company in Lincoln and Omaha, for the Minuteman Missile Program for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, WA, was the owner of Dean's Dixie Creme Donut Shop in Tecumseh, and as a Lineman for Omaha Public Power District in Tecumseh, Peru and Syracuse.  

He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he had served as a Trustee.  He also was Past President of the Kiwanis Club in Peru, Nebraska.

In his spare time, Dean enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing and camping. 

He is survived by his son, Rick of CA, sisters and brother-in-law, Jean and Charles Morris of AZ and Jan Faris of Lincoln, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Nina (Nov. 22, 2017), and brother-in-law, Robert "Bob" Faris.

Dean donated his body to the State of Nebraska Anatomical Board to further the education of medical students.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Pastor Robert Hayden and Rev. Hugh Giesbrecht officiating.

Memorials may go to the family’s choice.

A time of fellowship will follow the service at the First Baptist Activity Center in Tecumseh, Nebraska.
