Phyllis Alene Hoffman, 97, of rural Burchard, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Colonial Acres in Humboldt Nebraska with her family at her side. She was born on August 30, 1925 to Cyril and Alvina (Wolf) Snyder in rural Pawnee County, Nebraska.
Phyllis attended country schools and graduated from Pawnee City High School. At Peru State College, she studied Normal Training and then taught in local country schools. On October 8, 1944 she married Willard Hoffman in Pawnee City. They made their home on Willard’s family homestead near Steinauer, Nebraska where they raised their five children and Phyllis lived until the week before her death. Phyllis was a homemaker, active in her church, served as a 4-H leader and in the Southeast Quad County Porkettes. Following the death of her brother Frank, Phyllis served as guardian of his minor children.
Phyllis is survived by her children Byford and Paula Hoffman, Marcia Riesselman, Max Hoffman and son-in-law Steve Drozda and wife Sandy. Surviving grandchildren are Swen and Andréa Hoffman, Neal Hoffman, Nicol and John Whalen, Christina Riesselman and Christopher Moy, Lynne Riesselman and Ryan Henbest, Nicholas and Erin Drozda, Nadia and Tim Fisher, and Natalie and Jon Farnham. Phyllis is also survived by her sister Celia Standerford, brother Allen Snyder and wife Renata, twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband Willard in 2005, her parents, son Rodney Hoffman and wife Sigrun, grandson Joseph Hoffman, daughter Doris Drozda, brothers Frank Snyder and wife Mary Ann and Robert Snyder and wife Peggy as well as brothers and sisters-in-law, Dee Standerford, Harold and Edna Hoffman, Margaret Hoffman, Vernon and Erna Hoffman, Luella and Lavern Parks, Marvin and Lola Hoffman, and Bernard and Areva Hoffman.
Funeral Services 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 17, 2023 at Salem U.C.C. Church, rural Steinauer, Nebraska with Reverend Ken Tubbesing officiating. Visitation on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska. The service will also be live-streamed on the Wherry Mortuary/Wherry Monument Facebook page for those unable to attend. A link to the livestream is now available at the bottom of Phyllis' webpage.
