Orville L. Linford

Orville Leroy Linford was the only child born to Roy and Minnie (Baum) Linford on May 13, 1930 at Sterling, Nebraska.  He grew up a farm near Sterling and graduated from Sterling Public Schools.  He continued his education studying Horticulture at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.  His cousin Glen Baum and Orville roomed together while attending UNL.  After completing his education, Orville served his country in the United States Army from his enlistment December 7, 1951 to his honorable discharge November 17, 1953.  He then moved back to the family farm where he farmed until his retirement. 

Orville especially loved raising flowers and donated flowers weekly to the churches in Sterling, especially the United Methodist Church where he had been a lifetime member.  His favorite uncle, Glen Linford spent alot of time with Orville in his early years and was very close to him.  His mother Minnie taught him to dance by listening to Lawrence Welk and dancing around the dining table. Orville took care of his parents at the family farm until they passed away.  In 2007, Orville moved to Ridgeview Towers in Tecumseh, Nebraska where he made new friends.  He later transferred to Belle Terrace and passed away there on March 25, 2018 at the age of 87 years.

Orville is survived by his four cousins and their families, Glen and Mary Lou Baum of Tecumseh, Norman and Connie Baum of Tecumseh, Adelene Vock of Nebraska City and Verna Tegtmeier of Beatrice.

  He was preceded in death by his parents and favorite uncle Glen Linford. 

  Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

  Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the Sterling Cemetery, Sterling, Nebraska with Pastor Eric Biehl officiating with military rites by the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Team. 

  Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Ridgeview Towers Chapel in Tecumseh, Nebraska.

  Memorials may go to the Johnson County Avenue of Flags.
