Omer Anthony Kalin, 90, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Burchard Nebraska, passed away on Saturday August 7, 2021 with his family at his side. He was born on June 16,1931 to Emil and Agnes (Gyhra) Kalin in Pawnee City, Nebraska. He was baptized a week after his was birth, had first communion in 1938 and was confirmed in 1943 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burchard, Nebraska. Omer attended Lewiston Schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1948 as class Salutatorian.
Omer enlisted in the Air Force on September 25, 1950 and was discharged on November 26, 1951. Then in 1953, he was drafted into the Army and transferred to active reserves in September 1954 and was discharged from the reserves in February of 1961.
Omer drove truck for his brother Frances and later started working as an electrician for Cook Electric in Beatrice, Nebraska. Omer started his own construction business building homes, while also farming and raising livestock.
On October 22, 1960, Omer married Oliva Conradt at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Steinauer, Nebraska. To this union four children where born, Pat, John, Jean and Nancy.
Omer retired in 1990 and then he and Oliva moved to Lincoln where he was very active with the Knights of Columbus as a 4th Degree.
He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, Emil and Genevieve Conradt, daughter-in-law, Linda Kalin, granddaughter, Amanda Gibson, brothers, Frances (Arnette) Kalin and Jerome Kalin, sisters, Audrey (Barney) Wenzl, Esther (Lyle) Bstandig, Bernice (Norman) Jury and Marcellin (Bill) Little, brothers-in-law, Leonard (Blanche) Conradt, Charles (Patty) Conradt, John Conradt, Gerald (Betty) Conradt, sisters-in-law, Bernadette (Kenneth) Searcey, Rita (Gerald) Engle, Loretta (Dean) Roschewski and Mary Brown.
Omer is survived by his wife, Oliva Kalin of Lincoln, NE, sons, Pat Kalin of Burchard, NE, John (Lori) Kalin of Steinauer, daughters, Jean (Mike) VanLaningham of Beatrice and Nancy (Rod) Gibson of Lincoln, NE, 12 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, brother Emmett (Dee) Kalin, sister-in-law, Dorothy Kalin, brothers-in-law, Leroy Brown, Richard (Kathryn) Conradt, sisters-in-law, Nora (Ambrose) Hugo and Ruth Ann (Robert) Wenzl, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial Service: 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 13, 2021 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Steinauer, Nebraska. Officiating Father Michael Christensen. The service will also be livestreamed on the Wherry Mortuary/Wherry Monument Facebook page and a link is available on the bottom of Omer's webpage.
Rosary will be held Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Steinauer, Nebraska. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., at the Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska. The service will be live streamed on the Wherry Mortuary/Monument Facebook page.
Interment will be held at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery, Steinauer, Nebraska. Memorials may go to the family choice.
