Naomi Grace (Crook) Pope

Naomi Grace Pope, age 94, of Table Rock, Nebraska passed away quietly and peacefully on January 3, 2019 at Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt, Nebraska.

Naomi was born May 9, 1924 to Walter LeRoy and Winnifred Margarite (Pelham) Crook near Filley, Nebraska. The family lived near Filley and moved to western Nebraska in the mid-1920s for four years, then moved back to Filley.  She attended District 43 country school near Crab Orchard and graduated from Lewiston High School with the class of 1941. She attended Normal Training at the University of Nebraska, after which she taught school at Crab Orchard, Rockford and Elk Creek. She married Robert Allen Pope of Tecumseh on May 20, 1945 in Filley, Nebraska.  They lived in Beatrice, Elk Creek and Table Rock.  Naomi sold Avon, was a nurse aide in the Humboldt Hospital and a home health aide for Tabitha Home Health in York.  She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking, baking, reading and being with people.

Many called her grandma and Naomi enjoyed all the family and friends that came to her home.  She especially enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren.  Naomi loved to teach and she taught many children a game or two, how to count, say the alphabet or how to tie their shoes.  She belonged to Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, Daughters of the American Revolution and had been a 4-H leader and belonged to an extension club.  Naomi was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Table Rock and received her 75-year pin in 2017.  She belonged to the United Methodist Women and enjoyed giving lessons and programs in her social groups.  Naomi entered the Colonial Acres Nursing home in October of 2016 after suffering a stroke and enjoyed all of their activities.  

Naomi is survived by her four children: Marcia (Max) Hoover of York, Cynthia (Robert) Zehr of Foosland, IL, David (Susan Klein) Pope of Table Rock and Kimberly (Joe) Sharpe of Table Rock; 8 grandchildren: Jennifer Pope (Erik Lofts) of Geneva, Joshua Hoover of Marion, IL,  Seth (Lindsay Kircher) Hoover of Menifee, CA,  Abigail (Sam) Mwania of Lincoln,  Levi Zehr (Katie Rittenhouse) of Mahomet, IL,  Kelsee Sharpe of Columbus, Tanner Sharpe (Jamie Thorson) of Table Rock and  Mollee Sharpe of Lincoln; 7 great grandchildren, Izayah Morris and Emma Egger of Geneva; Kylie and Kaitlyn Synovec of Lincoln; Faith Mwania of Lincoln; Kyndl Zehr and Kazie Rittenhouse of  Mahomet, IL.  She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Wilkinson of Waverly; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Eugene and Carol Pope of Tecumseh and a host of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years; her parents; brother, Vernon Crook and grandson, Drew Allen Pope.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Table Rock, Nebraska with Pastor Dorothy Smith officiating.

Visitation will be from noon-8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Table Rock, Nebraska.  Family will greet friends from 6-8 pm at the church.

Interment will be at the Table Rock Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family’s choice with a later designation.
