N. Jean (Yates) Slagle

N. Jean Slagle, 86, of Lincoln, formerly of Tecumseh, passed away December 18, 2021.  She was born to Ernest "Pete' and Marie (Hager) Yates on April 26, 1935 in Auburn, Nebraska.  Jean grew up in Auburn and graduated from Auburn High School with the Class of 1953.

She worked as a telephone operator prior to her marriage to Melvin E. Slagle on December 26, 1953 in Tecumseh, Nebraska. To this union three children were born, Jolene, James and Doreen. 

Jean was a homemaker and raised her family with good cooking and love. They lived in Humboldt for many years. Melvin worked at the Cooper Mill and Jean worked for a time at Colonial Acres.  All three of their children graduated from Humboldt High School, Jolene in 1973, Jim in 1975, and Doreen in 1976. The family attended the Berean Church.
Jean also worked at the Good Samaritan Center in Auburn, Nebraska.  In her spare time Jean enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.  While living at the Tecumseh Manor, Jean enjoyed going to coffee and fellowship with others.  In 2017, Jean moved to the Orchard Park Assisting Living in Lincoln, Nebraska where she resided until her death.  

She is survived by her children, Jolene Pittenger of Lincoln, Jim Slagle and wife Bernice of Lincoln and Doreen Cruz of Lincoln, eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin (July 11, 2005), three sisters, Lola, Phyllis and Doris, brother, Don Yates and sons-in-law, Mitchell Cruz and Timothy Pittenger.  

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Rev. Hugh Giesbrecht officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2022 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.

Memorials may go to the family's choice.

Inurnment will be in the Spring Creek Cemetery, rural Tecumseh, Nebraska.
