Maurece Carla (Christensen) Hunzeker

Maurece Carla (Christensen) Hunzeker, 100, formerly of Humboldt was born on January 20, 1924, in Ceresco, Nebraska to Marius and May (Olson) Christensen.  Her family moved from Davey, Nebraska to Humboldt in 1930.  Maurece attended Humboldt Public Schools and graduated from Humboldt High School with the class of 1942.  On August 10, 1942, she was united in marriage to James Hunzeker at the Presbyterian minister’s house in Humboldt.  To this union five children, Larry, Walter, Roger, Sarah, and Ruth were born.  The couple operated a dairy farm south of Humboldt until retirement.  They founded Nebraska Rural Water Association where Maurece worked as an office manager from 1978-1990.  She was also a homemaker and a member of the Humboldt United Methodist Church.

Maurece passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024, at The Legacy in Lincoln, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of 100 years, 5 months, and 4 days.  She is preceded in death by parents; husband James “Jim” Hunzeker, son Walter, granddaughter Alisha Hunzeker, and her sister Irene (Pete) Gettys. 

Maurece is survived by her children: Larry, Sarah, Ruth, and Roger; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a host of relatives and friends.  

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2024, at the Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha Street in Humboldt, Nebraska with Dorothy Smith officiating.  A livestream broadcast of Maurece’s service is available here: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057240888156

Interment will immediately follow services at the Humboldt Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the donor’s choice with a later designation.
