Mary Alice (Buerstetta) Grove

Mary Alice Grove was born on October 6, 1930 to Lowell and Anna (Haney) Buerstetta in Tecumseh, Nebraska.   She was baptized in the United Methodist Church in Tecumseh and would remain a lifelong member of this church for over 75 years. 

Mary graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1948 and attended Wesleyan College for a year.  She was united in marriage to Kenneth Grove of Elk Creek, Nebraska on June 26, 1949.   They were blessed with four children, Jim, Ann, Steven and Linda.  Their married life started on a farm in Elk Creek but they later moved to the dairy farm south of Tecumseh that had been in Mary’s family for many years.   Mary’s early life was filled with raising children, chickens, and helping with the dairy business.   In later years, Mary enjoyed working in town as a bookkeeper at Doty Lumber and for several years as a secretary at Wherry Mortuary.   Mary loved growing flowers and feeding the birds and was always ready to go to shopping or to a flea market to see what treasures she might find. 

Through the years, Mary always remained active in her church and served on several boards and committees.   She was a member of the Martha Circle and helped with funeral lunches and bazaars.    Mary also had been a past member of the Rebekah Lodge and Chapter AT PEO.

Mary passed away on August 2, 2021 having reached the age of 90 years.  She is survived by her son Jim Grove and wife Cheryl, daughters Ann Curry and husband Bob of Tecumseh, and Linda Barnas and husband Chuck of Lincoln, sister-in-law June Bartels and husband Ray of Elk Creek, and brother-in-law Wayne Grove of Spokane, WA; grandchildren Hope Grove, Kelly Hasselbalch and husband Bret, Katie West and husband Brian, Jeff Curry and wife Jennifer, Clayton Grove, Erin Thuman and husband Jon, and Anthony Barnas; great-grandchildren, Krysten Winslow and husband Michael, Tabitha Herron and husband Dustin, Jayson West and Bryan West, Lynn, Laci, Lexi and Levi Hasselbalch, Kolton Grove,  Bryson and Maddie Thuman, and Ansley and Bryn Curry, great-great grandchildren Carter, Beau and Baylor Winslow, Bryleigh Moxley, Emery and Kamryn Herron, and Robert West, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, parents, infant son Steven, great grandson Aidan Curry, sister Betty Fink and husband Wilbur Fink, brother-in-law Donald Grove and wife Meredith Grove, sister-in-law Eileen Grove, and nephew Robert Fink and wife Jeanne Fink.   

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 6, 2021 at the United Methodist Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Pastor Angie Vertz officiating. The service was also live streamed on the Wherry Mortuary/Wherry Monument Facebook page and a link can be found at the bottom of Mary's webpage.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, August 5, 2021 at the Wherry Mortuary, Tecumseh, Nebraska.

Memorials may go to the family’s choice.

Interment will be in the Tecumseh Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska.
