Mary E. (Hauptman) Dezort

Mary Ethel (Hauptman) Dezort, daughter of Joseph Hauptman and Helen (Marsh) Henrichs, passed away after a battle with cancer on August 14, 2024. Mary was born on November 22, 1962 in Nebraska City. Mary attended Nebraska City High School and later earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Peru State College. She worked for the State of Nebraska in various capacities for more than 25 years.

As a child, Mary enjoyed participating in 4-H, horseback riding, and working in the garden. She also worked on local farms (“walking beans”) with her sisters Diane Clifton and Becky Bohling during the summers of her childhood.

As an adult, she lived briefly in Florida and Michigan but later returned to Southeast Nebraska as she began establishing a family. In 1986 she married Denton Brunges, with whom she had four daughters, Jennifer, Kari, Breanna, and Haley. She later divorced and married Dale (“Vincent”) Dezort in 2005. She lived with Dale outside of Crab Orchard until her death.

Mary delighted in spending time with her family, including her eight grandchildren. Her friends and family spent many evenings visiting with her on the back porch. She also enjoyed mushroom hunting, riding motorcycles, and camping trips with Dale and close friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her mother Helen, father Joseph, and step-father Daryl Henrichs. Those left to remember Mary include her husband Dale, her sisters Diane and Becky, daughters Jennifer and husband James Tuttle of Montana, Kari and husband Nicholas Von Busch of Lincoln, Breanna and husband Ross Walker of Indiana, and Haley and husband Jerome Jacobs of Beatrice, and her grandchildren Dresden, Jase, Lillyann, Lukas, Sebastian, Maddox, Emily, and Abigail. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 19, 2024 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Pastor Ken Tubbesing officiating.

Closed casket visitation will be held from 1-6 p.m., with family greeting friends from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, August 18, 2024 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.

Memorials may go to the family’s choice.

Interment will be in the Vesta Cemetery, rural Tecumseh, Nebraska.  A luncheon will follow at the First Baptist Activity Center.
