Marjorie Ellen Morrissey, 87, Tecumseh, died peacefully at Brookestone Village, Omaha, on December 2, 2022, with her family at her side. She was born April 14, 1935 to Charles and Agnes Obrist in Steinauer, Nebraska. She graduated from Steinauer High School in May of 1953. After high school, Marge and her sister, Marilyn, moved to Lincoln. She worked for 2 years as a secretary for the law firm Littrel-Patz-Douglas.
On September 3, 1956, she was united in marriage to John R. Morrissey at St. Anthony’s Church in Steinauer, Nebraska. They moved to a farm near Vesta, then moved into Tecumseh to the house on N. 5th Street. From this union, five children were born.
Marjorie was a mother and housewife and worked as an administrative assistant for Ford Dealership as well as the City of Tecumseh, Sears Catalog Store, Campbell Soup Company, and retired in 1997 from the Johnson-Nemaha-Pawnee County Extension Office. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing, shopping, bowling, gardening, and family gatherings. She was a great cook and baker and even taught some of her children and grandchildren how to make noodles from scratch. Marge loved the holidays, and her house would be diligently decorated for every holiday. Marge enjoyed playing Bridge, going on adventures, out to eat, or just having coffee with her friends.
Marge adored being a grandma. She was always excited to see her grandchildren and attend their activities. The great-grandchildren brought that to a whole new level. She enjoyed watching the older ones play and wanted to hold the babies. She loved travel and had made it to her beloved, Ireland, and all over Europe. She loved dancing. She and her husband, John, were amazing dance partners. Marge would definitely be found on the dance floor at family parties.
She is survived by son, Stephen, Omaha; daughters, sons-in-law, Pamela and Bob Tagart, Lincoln, Patricia and Rick Staudenmaier, Omaha, Mary and Patrick Sellner, Boston, MA, Kate and Joe Walter, Beloit, KS; brothers, sisters-in-laws, Larry and Lorraine Obrist, Harold and Mickey Obrist, and sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jo and Kevin Campbell, sister-in-law, Rosie Obrist, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mary and Jack Bray, Tom and Marie Morrissey; numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Acacia and Jeff Crist (Jon, Chandler, Emerson and Carter), Andrea Tagart, Jacob Tagart, Travis and Tyler Manley, Colleen and Adam Schaal (Evan and Fiona), Colin and Jackie Morrissey, Clara and Joey Sliva (Ryne and John), Hanna and Riley Cahill (Myla and Millie), Emma Staudenmaier, Nora Staudenmaier, Nick and Nicole Poliseno (Austin and Cameron), Stephen Sellner, Tyler Sellner, Elizabeth Walter, Benjamin Walter, and Felicity Walter, whom she loved to pieces and provided her with laughter and smiles whenever she saw them.
She is preceded in death by husband, John, her parents, parents-in-law Raymond and Elizabeth Morrissey; brother, Jack Obrist and sister, Marilyn Neukirch; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Morrissey; and grandson-in-law, Josh Meyer.
Mass of Christian Burial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2022 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska, with Father Christopher Kubat officiating. The service will also be livestreamed on the Wherry Mortuary Facebook page for those unable to attend.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 8, 2022 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.
Memorials may go to the family's choice.
Interment will be in the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska.
