Margaret Plager Obituary

Margaret Ruth (Koehler) Plager was born at home during a snow storm on November 23, 1940 to Henry and Sophia (Brockmeier) Koehler at rural Elk Creek, Nebraska. She was baptized at her parent’s home on Dec. 1, 1940 by Rev. Enno Schuelke and confirmed May 2, 1954 by Rev. Frank Schaefer at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Elk Creek, Nebraska.

She attended District #27 rural Johnson County School through the sixth grade, St. Peter’s Parochial School, where Margaret graduated eighth grade on May 15, 1954 and graduated from Tecumseh High School on May 22, 1958.  After graduation, Margaret worked for John Graff Insurance Company and Thurber Dodge Dealership in Tecumseh, NE.  Margaret was a stay-at-home mom until starting employment for the Johnson County Hospital where she was employed for approximately 30 years as a nurse’s aide, working the 3-11 shift.    

After meeting at a dance in Tecumseh, Margaret and Loren Plager were united in marriage on June 5, 1962 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.  After their marriage, Margaret became of member of St. James Lutheran (Long Branch) Church, rural Humboldt, NE. 

Margaret was a loving caregiver for others and in her spare time liked crafts, gardening, flowers, baking and babysitting.  She taught Sunday School at various times throughout her life. 

She passed away at her home on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at the age of 80 years.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Loren, of Table Rock, Don and Cheryl Plager of Table Rock, Artis and Danny Fisher of Tecumseh, Darold and Holly Plager of Tecumseh, Audrey Plager of Table Rock, Dale Plager of Table Rock, and Dan and April Plager of Centralia, KS, grandchildren, Trenton and Trevor Plager, Alisha and Dahlton Fisher, Steven and Kaitlynn Plager, Madison and Faith Plager, and Donavan and Nicholas Blagg, sisters, Alma Koehler of Tecumseh, Mildred Kettelhake of Steinauer and Evelyn Anderson and husband Gerald of Tecumseh, sisters-in-law, Geraldine Bohling of Auburn and Alberta Parsell of Springfield, Ohio, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Dwight, brother Leonard Koehler, sisters Ellenora Caspers, Alvina Kettelhake and Lillie Koehler, brothers-in-law, LaVerne Caspers, Edwin Kettelhake, Wilber Kettelhake, Richard Bohling and Ralph Parsell, sister-in-law, Leona Caspers and nephews, Robert Kettelhake and Marlin Bohling.                                                   

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, with Rev. Eric and Amalia Spruth-Janssen officiating.  Only immediate family will be allowed in the chapel.  The service will be livestreamed on the Wherry Mortuary/Wherry Monument Facebook page and also radio broadcast on FM 88.7 for those wishing to attend in their vehicles.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  There will be no viewing the day of the service. 

Memorials may go to the family’s choice.

Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. in the St. James Lutheran (Long Branch) Cemetery, rural Humboldt, Nebraska. The graveside service will be radio broadcast on FM 88.7.
