          Maria de la Luz Reyes Pena

Luz passed away May 12, 2025 at her home in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  She was born in Mexico to Jose Reyes and Guadalupe Pena on June 19, 1949.  She was the fourth of 11 children.  As a young child, Luz enjoyed playing outside with her siblings.  She was very protective of her siblings.  They liked to play with animals and really anything she could find, as Luz had a big imagination and an even bigger heart. 

Luz was always an extremely hard worker and a homemaker for her family.  She worked at Campbell’s Soup, later MBA Poultry and retired from Cargill.  After she retired, Luz liked to spend time making memories with her grandkids.  She loved being surrounded by family.  Luz was always ready to do any type of fun activity, for example going to the zoo, the movies, camping and going to the pumpkin patch.  Luz had a great sense of humor she was easy to love with her kind personality.  She loved being outdoors, especially trips to Indian Cave Park, spending time with family and playing cards.

She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh.  Her faith was very important to her.  She loved praying, especially the Rosary. 

Luz is survived by her four children, her grandchildren, three brothers and four sisters, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by parents, partner Juan Delgado and brothers Jesse Reyes and Lolo Reyes and sister Gudelia Reyes.

Mass of Christian Burial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Father Christopher Kubat officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2025 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Andrew Catholic Church followed by an all-night vigil.

Memorials may go to the family's choice.

Interment will be in the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, rural Tecumseh, Nebraska.
