Lawrence Hillyer Obituary

Lawrence (Larry) Hillyer, 73, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024 after a full and well-lived life. Born on October 13, 1951, in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Larry was a proud graduate of Tecumseh High School, Class of 1969. He attended Peru State College for four years before moving to Lincoln, where he spent the remainder of his life.

Larry worked for HyGain Electronics and the University of Nebraska, where he dedicated many years of service before retiring in 2017. Though Larry led a quiet, humble life, he was known for his unwavering love and devotion to his family, his passions, and his community.

A lifelong Husker football fan, Larry inherited his love for the Cornhuskers from his father, Von. He never missed a chance to attend games and was an enthusiastic supporter of his team. Larry was also a dedicated Kansas City Chiefs fan, watching every game with great pride. His passion for sports extended to his family, where he spent countless hours cheering on his grandchildren at local football and baseball games. He even took on the role of coaching a local midget football team, where his guidance and encouragement left a lasting impact.

In addition to his love for sports, Larry enjoyed the local music scene. You could often find him with a glass of his favorite sipping whiskey, enjoying the sounds of talented musicians. His warm presence, infectious enthusiasm, and caring nature made him a beloved figure among family, friends, and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Von and Maxine Hillyer, as well as his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his daughter, Kim (Bill) Biven; son, Kevin (Ashley) Hillyer; grandchildren, Keegan, Cameron, and Kenzie Biven; Decklan, Kellan, and Penelope Hillyer; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends who became like family to him.

As per Larry’s wishes, private graveside services will be held. Memorials may be made to the family for further designation.

Larry will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the memories he created, the love he shared, and the lessons he taught.
