Larry E. Naber

Larry Earl Naber was born to Mary Lou (McCain) Naber on April 27, 1958 in Syracuse, Nebraska.  He was raised in Tecumseh by his mom, Mary Lou, and grandparents, Lawrence and Dorothy McCain.  He graduated from Tecumseh High School with the Class of 1976.  While in high school, Larry enjoyed participating in wrestling and passed the love of this sport onto his family over the years. 

He was united in marriage to Colleen Vanzago on December 27, 1981 at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska.  This union was blessed with three daughters, Alicia, Emilie and Mikaela.

Throughout his life, Larry worked various jobs involving maintenance and construction.  He retired from the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution in 2014.  He then went to work for Johnson County Central Schools in the maintenance department.  His passion was driving the bus for his grandkids’ activities. 

Larry was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Cook where he had served on church council.  He was a nearly 20-year member of the Tecumseh Rescue Squad.   Larry had recently renovated his family home for his daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters to reside there.  In his spare time, Larry enjoyed fishing, family time and attending his grandchildren’s activities.

He passed away unexpectedly at his home on February 17, 2023 at the age of 64 years.

Larry is survived by his wife Colleen, daughters Alicia (Patrick) Brommer and Emilie (Mitch) Neemann and Mikaela (Travis) Thomas, grandkids, Hayley, (Trace), Maecee, Tucker, Prestin, Elliott, Kenna, Kloie, Baeley and Coralynn, uncle and aunt, Earl and Carole McCain, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Linda and Rodney Nord, Denise and Stephen McCown, nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou Naber, grandparents, Lawrence and Dorothy (Abbott) McCain and parents-in-law, Don and Louise Vanzago.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Pastor Jim Helgren officiating. The family requests casual dress.  The service was also livestreamed on the Wherry Mortuary Facebook page and a link to the livestream is now available at the bottom of Larry's webpage.    

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m., Monday, February 20, 2023 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.

Memorials may go to the family’s choice.

Interment will be in the Tecumseh Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska.
