Larry Cummins Obituary

Larry Gayle Cummins, 82, of rural Humboldt, Nebraska was born on February 2, 1936, in Dawson, Nebraska to Lockwood Glen and Gertrude (Porter) Cummins.  He was raised in Dawson and attended school there.  Larry graduated from Dawson High School with the class of 1954.  Following graduation, Larry worked for Boring Transfer in Dawson and Burlington Northern Railroad in Lincoln in the rail car repair shop.  On June 15, 1958, Larry was united in marriage to Hazel Luginbill at the Four-Mile United Church of Christ in rural Humboldt.  The couple had three children Nick, Holley and Christopher, they also raised several foster children together.  Larry served his country in the United States Army from October of 1958, until he was honorably discharged in November of 1961.  He returned home and continued farming until he and Hazel started Countryside Upholstery.  Larry upholstered many different things from furniture, horse drawn buggies, and car and truck interiors.  He had many of his car and truck interiors featured in several car magazines.  In his spare time, Larry did Fretwork, which was juried and sold at the IMAX theatre gift shop in Hastings, Nebraska and in the Nebraska Gift Catalogue.  He served on the Humboldt School Board, Humboldt Hospital Board, and Friedens United Church of Christ Board.  Larry was a member of the Quad County Museum, Humboldt Chamber of Commerce, and belonged to the Nebraska County Assistance Team and the Southeast Nebraska ARC.  He donated time to help with the Nemaha County Kansas Food Pantry and Harvesters Food distribution in Seneca, Kansas.  Larry played intramural softball in Lincoln and for Friedens UCC teams.  He loved hunting, fishing, playing cards, steaks and coconut cream pie.

Larry passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at the Community Medical Center in Falls City, Nebraska having reached the age of 82 years, 9 months, and 25 days.  He was preceded in death by his parents, children Holley Marie and Christopher William, sisters-in-law Imogene Cummins, Elizabeth Da Silva and brother-in-law Erasmo Da Silva.

Larry is survived by his loving wife Hazel of rural Humboldt, son Nick Cummins of Kenesaw, NE; several Foster Children, brothers: William Cummins of Fairbury, NE; Ronald (Sandy) Cummins of Lincoln, NE; sister-in-law Frances (Gordon) Warner of Eden Prairie, MN; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2018, at Friedens United Church of Christ in rural Bern, Kansas with Rev. Jacqueline Lamensky officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2018, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska.  Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary.

Inurnment will be at the Four-Mile Cemetery in rural Humboldt, Nebraska at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family’s choice with a later designation.
