Obituary

LaWayne Steven Mach was born on June 26, 1955 to Otto and Alma (Stastny) Mach in Pawnee City, Nebraska.  He passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.

LaWayne attended Kennedy rural school during his elementary years and graduated from Pawnee City High School in 1973. He continued his education at Iowa State University. He operated a grain and dairy farm located between Pawnee City and Dubois with his parents. LaWayne was a dedicated steward of the land, always working to improve the farms. He was an active member of the Pawnee City Presbyterian Church holding various positions, including Sunday School teacher. He was a loyal member of Pawnee Masonic Lodge  #23 and enjoyed the activities and offices.

LaWayne held a private pilot license and enjoyed a number of other hobbies including gardening, hunting, fishing, boating, bee keeping and cooking. After being diagnosed with celiac disease, LaWayne learned to follow a strict diet and prepared gluten free meals.  He also was attentive to his mother’s dietary needs and was always striving to maintain her health.

LaWayne led a frugal life but had a generous heart and contributed to community projects that would benefit many. He will be greatly missed as he was a loyal friend, honest and trustworthy, never having an unkind word.

He is survived by his mother Alma Mach of Pawnee City, aunts Betty Stauffer of Humboldt, Nebraska, Elsie Tomek of Pawnee City, Nebraska and Edna (Roy) Wittwer of Sabetha, Kansas, as well as many cousins, other relatives, and friends.
