Kyle Lantz Obituary

Kyle Lantz, 91, of Pawnee City, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 in Kearney, Nebraska at the Central Nebraska Veterans Home.  He was born on May 5, 1931 in Pawnee City, Nebraska to Leonard and Maudie (Hartman) Lantz.

Kyle grew up in the Burchard and Pawnee area.  He attended Bookwalter grade school and finished high school at Lewiston High School and graduated in 1949.

He graduated in the May of 1949 and in the fall of 1949 was called to serve his country.  He served abroad the USS Rochester CA124 during the Korean Conflict. He left the states in May of 1950 and did not return until November of 1953.

On February 5, 1955 he married Crystal Hurley. He was employed by North American Aviation who rewired and repaired planes for the Air Force.

They moved from California to Nebraska in 1960.  He went to work for the government. He began as road inspection and later emergency work.  In 1982 he was sent to Mercury, Nevada to the Nuclear test site.  Because of changes he was sent back in 1992 to observe a test.

He was member of the Pawnee City Methodist Church.  He followed his grandparents, his grandmother was a 50 year member and in 2011 Kyle was presented a 50 year pin from the United Methodist Church.  He is a member of Sesostris Shrine, Masonic Lodge #27 of Beatrice, Order of Eastern Star, and was a Rainbow ambassador for  Rainbow girls for 33 years at Aurora and Valley, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his wife Crystal, his parents, Leonard and Maudie, daughter Karen Engert, three brothers, Kenneth, Keith and Ralph and sister Lola Jean Clutter.

He is survived by his two granddaughters, Tessa (Jamey) Rome of Gibbon, NE, Tena (Mike) Widener-Busch of Grand Island, NE, great-granddaughter, Madison Widener of Grand Island, NE, great-grandson, Konnor Rome of Gibbon, NE, great-great-granddaughter Emberleigh Widener, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Services 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at the United Methodist Church, Pawnee City, Nebraska, Pastor Kim officiating.  Visitation on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 from 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 4-6 pm. at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska.  Interment at the Virginia Cemetery, Virginia, Nebraska.  Memorials to family choice.  Online condolences may be at www.wherrymortuary.com. Services entrusted with Wherry Mortuary, Pawnee City, Nebraska.
