Kelly Jean (McKinney) Simmons

Kelly Jean (McKinney) Simmons was born to Orland “Mac” and Patricia "Pat" A. (Liller) McKinney on October 18, 1969 in Lincoln, Nebraska. She grew up in Tecumseh, Nebraska with her family and graduated from Tecumseh High School with the Class of 1987.   Her love of music and singing began during high school when she was involved in chorus and band.  She grew up with her First Baptist Church family. 

She was united in marriage to Michael J. Simmons, Jr. on July 8, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  They made their home in Omaha.  Kelly worked several places, but found her niche’ working as a Certified Ophthalmology Assistant at Illumin in Omaha.

Kelly loved to sing and go to Karaoke.  She also sang with her brother Kevin in the band Macsaphone in honor of their father “Mac”.  She was strong willed, but had a heart of gold. Kelly loved decorating her house and always kept a tidy home.  Mike and Kelly loved to travel and went to Las Vegas every year for 15 years.  Kelly was a loving wife, mother and sister. 

She passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at the earthly age of 53 years. 

Kelly will be deeply missed by her loving husband Mike, children, Haleigh McDonald and Trish McKinney,  Heather Glenn, Jessica Carranza, Mike Simmons III and Brett Simmons, grandchildren, Kaliegh, Jaxson, Jacoby, Kendall, Noah, Tessa, Ava, Olivia, Willow, Caden and Reese,  siblings, Kevin McKinney (Terri), Dennis McKinney, Karen Belding (Darrin), Joe LaFrance (Janet), Lita Bosch, aunt Linda Tomsick, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, parents-in- law, Mike and Mary Simmons, Sr. and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kelly Johnson (Mitch), Rick Simmons and Danny Simmons and many close friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Mac and Pat.                                                        

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 19, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Pastor Hugh Giesbrecht officiating. The service was also livestreamed and a link to the livestream is now available at the bottom of Kelly's webpage.  

Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m., with family greeting friends from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, December 18, 2022 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.
