Kathleen A. "Kathy" (Spaustat) Zyla, born in Omaha, NE on January 4, 1953, went to be with our Lord on October 8, 2023, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her Tecumseh, NE home.
Kathy's life was colorful and filled with her passion for creativity, from her green-thumbed gardening to her artistry in the kitchen, crafting, and the meticulous quilting that was her pride and joy. Her quilts, a labor of love, were entered into fairs, alongside her delicious desserts and things from her gardens, which included vibrant blooms and homegrown delights.
She danced through life with enthusiasm, often sharing arcade outings and fishing with her grandkids. Her home was a menagerie of fascinating pets and flourishing indoor plants.
Kathy was involved in volunteer work, with her most treasured role as a Girl Scout Leader, guiding her daughters and forming friendships through shared experiences. She had exceptional work ethic that she carried through everything she did, including her festive decorating during her favorite holiday, Halloween, and at Christmas, her home transformed into a wonderland full of multiple trees and festive decorations. Kathy will be missed by so many people who loved her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her grandmother, "Old Non" Irma DeLaMotte, her mother, Joyce Nanfito, her father, Lawrence Spaustat, and her brother, Larry Spaustat.
She leaves behind her loving family: her two daughters, Leigh Zyla (friend Dale Laflin), Jennifer Scarlett (Ryan), and her son, Dave Zyla (Beckie); her cherished grandchildren, Trevor, Samantha, Austin, Courtnie, Evin, and Trenton; her sister, Lori Burns (James); her brother, Douglas Nanfito (Deborah), and a host of nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice and caregivers for the support that she received.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 13, 2023 at the Cornerstone Lutheran Church, 2342 Hoyt Street in Beatrice, Nebraska with Pastor Mike Williams officiating. Luncheon to follow service.
