John W. McLaughlin

John William McLaughlin, 90, of Lincoln, formerly of Tecumseh, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2022 in Lincoln, Nebraska.  He was born to Daniel and Helen (Davey) McLaughlin on August 8, 1932 in the "old hospital" in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  His family moved to Washington D.C. in 1939. His father worked as a paint contractor for the federal government.  They returned to Tecumseh in 1942 for his dad's health reasons.  In his younger days, John enjoyed going to see cowboy movies and roller skating.  He graduated from Tecumseh High School and attended the UNL College of Business for awhile.  John had a deep and abiding pride in his Irish heritage.  

John was united in marriage to Beverly Hogrefe on July 7, 1973 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  This union was blessed with 49 years of marriage and five children.    

The majority of John's working life was spent doing custodial work for the Lincoln Public Schools and prior to that he was a bus driver for the Tecumseh Public Schools.  John loved people and talked to everyone he met on bus tours and everywhere he was, in stores, walking the dog, teachers, students, parents, etc.  He enjoyed traveling, especially taking bus and casino trips with Beverly. They went to Branson, MO by bus for Christmas shows annually for a number of years, and bus trips from the west to east coasts, from Canada to New Mexico.  John loved dogs, walking around the square in Tecumseh and talking to those he met.  

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Beverly of Lincoln, sons Sean, Patrick and Daniel McLaughlin, daughter Helen Erion and husband Phil, grandchildren, Declan, Quinton, Everett and Kaitlyn McLaughlin and Ben and Wes Erion. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Catherine Anne and sister Elaine McLaughlin.                            

Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2022 at the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska with Father Christopher Kubat officiating. The service will also be livestreamed on the Wherry Mortuary/Wherry Monument Facebook page for those unable to attend.

Visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m., Sunday, August 21, 2022 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.   

Memorials may go to the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery or the St. Andrew Catholic Church, Tecumseh, Nebraska.

Interment will be in the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska.
