Obituary

John J. Blecha, 95 years, 10 months, 23 days of age of Seneca, KS, formerly of Burchard, NE, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Sunday August 6, 2023 at Life Care Center Seneca, KS.

John was born on September 15, 1927 to Joseph and Mary (Wies) Blecha in Summerfield, KS. John was the oldest child of eight children. John had lived on the family farm till he moved to the nursing home in September of 2015. He attended District #11 Violet Country School through the 8th grade. When Daddy couldn’t take his younger siblings to and or from school, John would take them himself with the team of mules and the wagon. John helped his Daddy and Mama on the farm with many chores. He also hired himself out to help on neighboring farms. He enjoyed raising his cattle and working with horses and the mules. He had a special horse named Candy that he loved to ride and later a horse named Beauty.

John loved to attend dances and the county fairs. He was outgoing and enjoyed visiting with people. John enjoyed playing bingo at the fairs, when he had time. After he had entered the nursing home, he looked forward to playing bingo each week and if he had a bingo John loved picking out the treats. In his later years, John enjoyed going deer hunting with his niece and nephews and looked forward to getting up early to go hunting each year. John really enjoyed driving the tractor to square bale hay and looked forward to that each year. John also liked to help move the big round bales out of the field later in life. He also enjoyed being able to haul livestock to St. Joseph, MO stockyards with his truck.

John attended St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Steinauer, NE until he entered the nursing home. He was strong in his faith and attended church services offered at the nursing home.

John is survived by his brother Richard Blecha of Humboldt, NE and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his siblings Robert Blecha, Joan Blecha, Charles Blecha, Betty Blecha, Morris Blecha, and Mary Jean Shinn and brother-in-law Ernest Shinn and sister-in-law Mary Ann Blecha.
