Joan Hayes was born to William J. and Veronica (Culhan) Hayes on December 22, 1933 in Blaine, Kansas. She attended grade school in Kansas until the family moved to Tecumseh, Nebraska. She graduated from Tecumseh High School with the Class of 1951.
She worked as a long-time bank teller for Johnson County Bank and later American National Bank. She volunteered for many years for the Red Cross blood drives and also served on the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery Board. Joan was a devoted Catholic and was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church and Altar Society. In her spare time, Joan enjoyed bowling, walking, reading and spending time with her family. She was a very kind, gentle, thoughtful woman and will be missed by those who knew her.
Joan went home to be her with Lord on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh at the age of 90 years. She is survived by her brothers William Hayes, Jr. of Shenandoah, IA, Larry Hayes of Tecumseh and Jim Hayes and wife Sherrill of Lincoln, sister Judi Weber of Lincoln and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Eugene and Richard Hayes and sisters Dorothy Fox and husband Roger, Elizabeth “Betty” Morrissey and husband Owen “Jerry” and Maxine Norris and husband Hal and brother-in-law Harlan Weber.
Rosary will held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2024 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Father Tom McGuire officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the rosary.
Memorials may go to the family’s choice.
Interment will be in the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska.
