JoAnn Jurgens Obituary

JoAnn (Holden) Jurgens was born to Dale and Ellyn (Villars) Holden on September 27, 1942 in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  In her early years, JoAnn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Tecumseh where she was baptized on April 17, 1949 and confirmed May 24, 1953.  She attended Tecumseh Public Schools and graduated from Tecumseh High School.  

JoAnn was married to George Wusk in 1961 and they later divorced.  She married Alvin Jurgens in August of 1979.  After their marriage, Alvin and JoAnn lived near Filley and JoAnn became a member of the American Lutheran Church.  Alvin passed away July, 2016.  JoAnn worked at the Campbell Soup Company in Tecumseh for over 27 years until it closed.  She was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, Johnson County Museum Board, Women in Farm Economics (W.I.F.E.), Deer Creek Sodbusters, the Ladies Group at the American Lutheran Church in Filley and many other groups and organizations as JoAnn was a people person and always busy and involved in something!  

Her hobbies and interests included photography, flower arrangements in her earlier years and raising dogs, especially Beagles. Her last dog was Buddy.  Buddy liked to run off when she let him out and then Buddy would receive a police "escort" home. 

She passed away at the Lakeview Assisted Living in Firth, Nebraska on August 15, 2019 at the age of 76 years.  

JoAnn is survived by her sisters, Genniene Hauptmeier and husband Dan of Sterling and Linda Smith and husband Steve of Milton, WA, brother-in-law, Elton Harrifeld of Lincoln, uncle Bruce Villars and wife Charlene, in-laws, Joyce and Robert Haecker; nieces and nephews, Denise Perez and husband Hector, Dan Hauptmeier, Jr., Dale Hauptmeier, Dee Ann Schweitzer and husband John, Gene Rezac, Jr and wife Petra, Ellyn Oejda and husband Jon, Jim Rezac and wife Laura, Scott Harrifeld, Doug Harrifeld and wife Marcy and Troy Harrifeld and wife Stacey and many great nieces and great nephews. 

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, two stillborn children, husband Alvin Jurgens, an infant sister, Elaine Holden and sister, Virginia Harrifeld and brother, James Holden. 

  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, with Pastor LuRae Hallstrom officiating.

  Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.

  Memorials may go to the American Lutheran Church in Filley, Nebraska.

  Private family inurnment will be at a later date in the Tecumseh Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska.
