James E. “Doc” Stephenson, 97 of Humboldt, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 8, 1922 to Leonard and Beulah (Eastman) Stephenson in Callaway, Nebraska.
Doc was born and raised in Callaway, Nebraska. He graduated from Callaway High School in 1940 and then attended the University of Nebraska Dental College in Lincoln where he graduated in 1953.
Doc served in the Army during the end of WW II from May 6, 1943 to his honorable discharge on March 8, 1946.
On August 22, 1953, James was united in marriage to Judy Mason at the United Methodist Church in Beatrice, Nebraska. To this union a son, Mark Alan, was born. In 1953, James and Judy moved to Humboldt, Nebraska.
After retiring Doc and Judy wintered in Arkansas Pass, Texas from October to April and enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends down there.
Doc was a member of the Humboldt Lion’s Club, active member of the the American Legion in Humboldt, served on the Humboldt School Board, Humboldt Chamber of Commerce and on the ESU Board in Auburn, Nebraska.
Doc loved golfing, and even hit a hole in one, bowling, fishing and spending time with family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Judy, brother, Alan and sister, Marion.
Doc his survived by his son, Mark Stephenson of Humboldt, NE, grandson and wife, Craig and Kelly Stephenson of Syracuse, NE and great-grandchildren, Cade, Cale and Cora Stephenson.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 12, 2019 at the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Beatrice, Nebraska, with Pastor Eric Biehl officiating.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m., on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha Street, Humboldt, Nebraska.
Inurnment will be in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Beatrice, Nebraska with military rites provided by the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Team.
