Ima Gene D. Mason, age 81 of Tecumseh passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, June 28, 2023 surrounded by family. She was born on July 16, 1941 at home in Cook, Nebraska to Jim and Edna (Lagemann) Beers. She was baptized on August 10, 1941 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Osage. She was a 1959 graduate of Syracuse High School. Ima Gene attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln for one year before meeting her future husband Dale L. Mason. They were united in marriage on April 9, 1961. To this union three boys were born Randy, Tim, and Chris. Ima Gene and Dale raised their family on an acreage outside of Tecumseh.
Ima Gene was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was always ready for a good time. “ It’s 5 O’clock Somewhere” was a favorite song of hers and she would often live up to that motto in her everyday life and when she was on vacation. Ima Gene was a talented artist. She enjoyed teaching painting classes and selling her handcrafted artwork locally and throughout Nebraska. Her favorite pastime was gardening, fishing and going to her boys and all her grandchildren sporting events. She had an adventurous spirit. Her love of life and traveling took her to many fun and beautiful places.
She is survived by her sons, Randy Mason and wife Nikki of Pawnee City; Tim Mason and fiancé Diane Ackerman of Douglas; Chris Mason and wife Renae of Adams. Eleven grandchildren, Shelby Petrzilka and husband Daryle of Waverly; Amber Stutzman and husband Garett of Seward; Brooke Barr and husband Daniel of Liberty; Connor Mason and wife Caylee of Filley; Cassidy Mason and fiancé Brittain Timms of Greenwood; Abby Hovendick and husband Heath of Beatrice. Two great-grandchildren, Declan Petrzilka and Noah Stutzman, sisters Gerri Stubbendick of Avoca and Beverly Bjork and husband Chuck of Unadilla, sisters-in-law, Shirley Beers of Lincoln, Shirley Fritsch of Tecumseh, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ivan and Myrna Mason of Auburn, many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Ima Gene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, brother Donald, brothers-in-law, Alan Stubbendick, Lynn Wilhelm, Laverne Fritsch, Gene Mason, Stan Manske and sister-in-law Ella Mae Mason-Manske.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2023 at the St. Paul’s U.C.C. (Maple Grove) Church, rural Tecumseh, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Renae Koehler officiating. The service was also livestreamed on the Wherry Mortuary Facebook page for those unable to attend. A link to the livestream is now also available on the bottom of Ima Gene's webpage.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.
Memorials may go to the family’s choice.
Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. in the Vesta Cemetery, rural Tecumseh, Nebraska.
