Hugh Laflin Obituary

Hugh Frederick Laflin was born to Grant and Nancy (Carel) Laflin on October 31, 1945 on the farm near Crab Orchard, Nebraska.  He attended rural elementary country school through the eighth grade and Lewiston High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from March 27, 1968 to November 12, 1969.  For his time of service, Hugh received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. 

He was united in marriage to Janet Sewell and later Connie Higgins.  Hugh worked as a truck driver and as a welder for Totes Systems.  In his spare time, he drove race cars at the Beatrice Speedway for six years, and enjoyed squirrel and pheasant hunting. 

Hugh passed away March 19, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Center in Beatrice at the age of 77 years. 

He is survived by his children, Jackie Gilland and husband Jeff of Beatrice, Todd and Brenda Laflin of Beatrice and Jennifer Kovarik of Lincoln, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, siblings, half-sister Helen McKenzie of Avoca, Shirley Higgins of Crab Orchard, Jim Laflin and wife Judy of Rockport, MO,  Diane Richardson and husband James of Adams, Norma Jean “Jeannie” Rogman and husband Wayne of Lincoln and Deb Belding and husband Mike of Beatrice, numerous nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Marjorie Laflin of Crab Orchard.

Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harvey Laflin and Dwayne Carel, infant sister Linda Kay Laflin and brother-in-law John Lambert.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Pastor Hugh Giesbrecht officiating.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2023 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.

Memorials may go to the Vietnam Veteran Traveling Wall.

Inurnment will be in the Crab Orchard Cemetery, Crab Orchard, Nebraska with full military honors.
