Herbert Lueders Obituary

Herbert Dean Lueders, 99, of rural Tecumseh, passed away August 14, 2021 at Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams, Nebraska.  He was born February 25, 1922 at the home of his parents, William and Anna (Hereth) Lueders at Cortland, Nebraska.  Herb was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church at Clatonia, Nebraska.  He attended Barkley rural school by Cortland.  In January, 1938, Herb moved with his parents to Elk Creek and helped his dad on the farm.

Herb enlisted in the Navy on August 14, 1942 and served aboard the battleship USS New York and then on the destroyer USS Mac Kenzie.  On Dec. 5, 1945, Herb was discharged as a radar man 3rd class.  In April of 1946, Herb started to farm and also enlisted in the Naval Reserves and served until 1952 when he received a medical discharge.

He met his bride to be, Janet Minchow, on the Table Rock Booster trip and they were married one year later on August 4, 1951.  To this union four children were born, Robert Allen, Beverly Joan, Kenneth Dean and Rodney Lee.

Herb and Janet lived on four different farms before they bought the farm that they have resided on for 52 years.  They raised chickens, hogs, stock cows and milk cows.  Herb also worked for 10 years for Wright Tree Service.  When he wasn’t busy taking care of the farm, he enjoyed playing cards at the Elk Creek tavern with the guys and he also loved Janet’s cooking, especially her fried chicken and coconut cream pie.  He had her trained to serve lunch right at noon and supper at 6 pm.  He was a long time member of the Tecumseh VFW and the American Legion.  He loved the farm, his family and his Lord.  Herb will be dearly missed.

Herb is survived by his wife of 70 years, Janet, children, Robert “Bob”Lueders and grandsons Henry and Wyatt, Beverly “Bev” Koehler and husband Dan and grandson Chad Koehler and wife Kendra and great-granddaughters, Kaleigh and Anna Koehler and their special friends Cole Beethe and Alex Gyhra, Kenneth “Kenny”Lueders and wife Kelly and grandson Dalton Lueders and great-granddaughters, Leyton, Breckyn, Evy and Rowan, granddaughter Danielle Lueders, step-granddaughter, Mady Schuster and husband Jacob and step-grandson Joey Henne and wife Hollie, brother-in-law Wayne Minchow and wife Carol and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son Rodney, granddaughter Tracy Koehler, his parents, brothers, Lester “Bud” and wife Norma and Myron and wife Bernice, sisters, Velma Bergmeyer and husband Edward, Norma Severin and husband Kermit and Ruth Siems and husband Art, and parents-in-law, Everett and Genevieve Minchow.
                                              When God Created Farm Folks
When God created farm folks He was surely at His best- He made them something special To help clothe and feed the rest.
The man He gave wide shoulders, Burly hands, a friendly grin- An old and dusty farm cap  In places worn quite thin.
An optimist in coveralls- Determined, strong and true,  A man whose love of country land  Would help to pull him through.
Next He added intelligence, Gentleness and grit- He even found a place For the funny bone to fit.
Then God took a little rest- He was only halfway through, He had yet to make the farmer's wife...No ordinary gal would do!
He started with endurance, Stamina and pride. For she would be a woman To stand at the farmer's side.
He gave a sense of humor Then added warmth, a loving heart, Courage, brains and enduring faith- He'd made the perfect start!
Then He put the two together, The farmer and his bride, To work and love the land Forever--side by side.
