Helen Josephine Anderson

Helen Josephine Anderson, 94, of Pawnee City, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at the Pawnee City Assisted Living in Pawnee City.  She was born August 9,1928 to Samuel and Josephine (Tlustos) Brzon and lived in a farmhouse northeast of DuBois, Nebraska.  Helen attended District #15 Country School, often called the Hunzeker School.  Helen graduated from Pawnee City High School.  She married Marvin F. Anderson on February 19, 1949.

In 1960, Helen and Marvin moved to Virginia, Nebraska, where Marvin was postmaster for 24 years and was a weather observer for 37 years.  Marvin was a member of the American Legion Fisher Post 367 at Virginia, NE. Helen and Marvin created and owned a wildlife refuge south of Virginia for 44 years.  Helen and her dogs spent a lot of time at the refuge where it was so peaceful and quiet.   Marvin and Helen moved to Pawnee Village in Pawnee City in July 2009.  Marvin passed away on April 29, 2011, and was buried at the Czech National Cemetery, southwest of Humboldt, Nebraska. 

Helen loved to dance, garden, can and freeze food, play cards, fish, write letters and feed the wild birds and squirrels.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Josie and Samuel Brzon; her husband, Marvin; two sisters, Rosie Good and Shera Brzon; her brother-in-law, Kenneth Good; one brother, Samuel Brzon and his wife Betty; and two half brothers, Arthur Jilek and Emil Jilek. 

Helen is survived by nieces, Marcia (Leland) Harmon, Marilyn Stadler, Gloria (John) Strope and Judy (Philip) Akers, and nephew, Mark (Patricia) Jilek, and great nieces and nephews.

Graveside service: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at the Bohemian National Cemetery, southwest of Humboldt, Nebraska.  Officiating Pastor Howard Blecha. Visitation on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G, Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Interment at the Czech National Cemetery next to her husband, Marvin, and other family members.
