Gordon Jay Clement, 89, of Table Rock, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital with his loving wife and family by his side. He was born in Table Rock, Nebraska on July 19, 1932 to Charles and Golda (Hays) Clement.
Gordon lived in the Table Rock area most of his life. He attended District #52 from 1938-1946, then Humboldt High School from 1946-1950. In 1951, Gordon and his friend and classmate Rudy Fritch, Jr. joined the Marine Reserves at Marine Fighter Squadron #113 Naval Air Station, Lincoln. And then he was transferred to the Helicopter Transport Squadron at Cherry Point, NC. Then his next duty station was Aircraft Service Squadron El Toro, Santa Ana, CA and then served active duty from 1952-1954. He was deployed to Okinawa, Japan during the Korean War and attained the rank of Sergeant.
In 1953, Gordon married Marilyn Eulalia Miller at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Auburn, Nebraska. After Gordon and Marilyn were married, they moved to a farm near Table Rock in 1955. Gordon raised corn, soybeans, milo, wheat and alfalfa, and had a farrow to finish hog operation where he also raised angus and black white-faced cattle. To this union four children were born, Gregg Jay, Grant Alan, Mikel Gene and Marla Lynn.
On July 10, 1982 Gordon married Paulette Joan Dunn and later divorced. On June 14, 1997 Gordon married Cheryl (Tuma) Rose at the Table Rock United Methodist Church.
Gordon joined the Methodist Church in 1998, where he served as Elder from 2008-2009, served as Pawnee County Commissioner from 1992-2004, Boy Scout Committeeman in the 1970’s, member of the Farmers Educational & Cooperative Association Board for 10 years, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3767 of Auburn for 25 years, life member and officer since 1955 of both the Brown-Hays American Legion Post #289 and the Dalton-McHugh VFW-Post #5289 of Pawnee City since 1970, Marine Corps Association, National Farmers Organization, Farm Bureau, helped Table Rock High School with the FFA program, National Rifle Association life-member and past president of the Table Rock Historical Society.
Gordon is preceded in death by parents, Charles and Golda Clement, parents-in-law Albert (Speedy) and Mira (Duder) Miller, infant brother Marvin, wife Marilyn, sons Grant and Mikel, step-son Kevin Rose, step-daughter Betty Dunn.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl of Table Rock, NE, children, Gregg (JoAnne) Clement of Table Rock, NE, Marla (Scott) Finke of Deshler, NE, grandchildren, Wade (Amy) Clement of Lincoln, Shawna (Joshua Bomberger) Clement of Ceresco, Heath Finke of Wausa, Hutch Finke of Deshler, great-grandchildren, Emersyn, Huxley and Bellamy Clement, step-sons Bob (Colleen) Dunn of Beatrice, Keenan Rose, Orlando, FL, step-granddaughter, Ashley (Tyler) Wit of Chester, NE, step-great granddaughters, Grace and Lillian Wit, sister-in-law Judy Wilson and husband Roger of Lincoln, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at the Table Rock United Methodist Church with Pastor Dorothy Smith officiating. The service will also be live streamed on the Wherry Mortuary/Wherry Monument Facebook page. The link to the livestream is now available on the bottom of Gordon's webpage.
Visitation from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. , with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2022 at the Table Rock United Methodist Church.
Interment will be in the St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery, Steinauer, Nebraska with full military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard, American Legion Brown-Hays Post #289 of Table Rock, Dalton-McHugh VFW Post #5289 of Pawnee City.
Memorials in lieu of flowers to The Salvation Army or the Table Rock United Methodist Church.
