Gerald “Jerry” Martin Nolte, 84, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born on June 6, 1934, in Hiawatha, Kansas to Alfred and Lena (Herbster) Nolte. When Jerry was a year old, his mother Lena passed away and he was raised by his foster parents Ben and Dora Yoesel. He was raised in Falls City and graduated from Falls City High School with the class of 1953. After high school, Jerry attended Peru State College for one year then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served his country in active duty from November 15, 1956 until being honorably discharged on September 4, 1958. Jerry then went back to college attending Kansas State University where he earned his degree in Animal Science and Nutrition. He then worked for a short time as a surveyor for Doane Agriculture.
On July 11, 1964, Jerry was united in marriage to Dorothy (Vollmer) Whalen at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Falls City, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Humboldt where Jerry started his career at the O.A. Cooper Feed Company. After Cooper Feed Company closed, Jerry worked for Production Credit in Humboldt then sold seed for Taylor and NC Plus which later became Channel Seeds. For 27 years, Jerry was a Dairy Supervisor for Dairy Herd Improvement Association. He was a member of the Harvey-Mann Legion Post #269, Faith Lutheran Church where he served for many years as an elder and trustee and past member of the Humboldt Lions Club.
Jerry passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at his home in Humboldt, Nebraska having reached the age of eighty-four years, eleven months and sixteen days. He was preceded in death by his parents, foster parents, a brother Gene Nolte, brother-in-law Warren Closson and sister-in-law Denretta Nolte, brother-in-law, Harold Vollmer and sister-in-law, Donna Vollmer.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife Dorothy Nolte of Humboldt, NE; sons: Jim (Kellie) Nolte of Sibley, MO; Bryan (Ginger) Nolte of Prescott, AZ; Cyle (Suzanne) Nolte of Bellevue, NE; Clay (Diana) Nolte of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Nicole (Ryan) Lasley of Liberty, MO; Tara Nolte of Sibley, MO; Alecia Nolte of Independence, MO; Ava Nolte of Prescott, AZ; Casey Nolte of Bellevue, NE; Bryce Nolte of Bellevue, NE; Cade and Connor Jochum of Omaha, NE; Cole and Christian Nolte of Omaha, NE; great-granddaughters: Addison, Lilly and Maylee Lasley of Liberty, MO; a brother Burdell Nolte of Humboldt, NE; a sister Irene Closson of Sabetha, KS; sister-in-law Vicky Nolte and husband Doug Chatem of Buckeye, AZ, brother-in-law, Harvey Vollmer of Falls City, NE and sister-in-law Dorothy Vollmer of Falls City, NE; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at The Faith Lutheran Church in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Tim Llewellyn officiating.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Monday, May 27, 2019, at the Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary.
Interment will be at the Humboldt Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Harvey Mann Legion Post #269 and U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Faith Lutheran Church, Ascera Care Hospice or the Humboldt Cancer Garden.
