Obituary

Gerald C. Snyder was born on August 13, 1930 to Calvin Clarence and Ferne Rachel (Black) Snyder in Lamont, Oklahoma.  Gerald passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at the age of 92 at the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.  He is the middle of three children. He lived in and around Lamont and Ponca City, Oklahoma, moving to Geuda Springs, Kansas in 1945.  Gerald graduated from Geuda Springs in 1948 and later moved to Arkansas City, Kansas.

In 1948, Gerald enlisted into the Navy.  He was honorably discharged in 1954.  Gerald worked for Boeing Aircraft and General Electric while living in Arkansas City.  In 1957 he started out working part-time for the United States Postal Service in Arkansas City, eventually taking a full-time position.  Gerald transferred to Pawnee City, Nebraska as a rural mail carrier in 1961 and retired in 1990.

Gerald and his loving wife Bonnie Joan Tannahill were married in Arkansas City, on February 6, 1955. To this union were born two daughters, Peggy and Janice.

He was a member of the Christian Church in Geuda Springs and Christian Church in Arkansas City.  Upon moving to Pawnee City, he transferred his membership to the First Christian Church in Pawnee City.  He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Pawnee City Fairview Golf course and the Pawnee City American Legion.

His hobbies included bird hunting, fishing, golfing and wood working.  He enjoyed playing cards and dominoes. Gerald was a practical joker and enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Velma Hawkins. 

Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 67 years Joan, daughters, Peggy (Randy) Edwards of Lincoln, NE, Janice (Dan) Potter of Rising City, NE, grandchildren, Craig (Shelby) Potter, John (Megan) Potter, Kristin Potter, (fiancé Brock Spangler), Brian Edwards, step-grandson Matt Edwards, great grandchildren, Oliver Potter, Daxton Potter, step-great granddaughter, Lyllianna Edwards, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial Service 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at the First Christian Church/First Presbyterian Church in Pawnee City, Nebraska. Officiating Pastor Diane Morgan and Reverend Ken Tubbesing.  Visitation on Monday, November 21, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska.   Inurnment at the Pawnee City Cemetery, Pawnee City, Nebraska with military honors provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard and the Pawnee City American Legion Post # 168.  Masonic Rites provided by Pawnee Lodge #23 A.F. & A.M. Memorials to the Pawnee County Medical Foundation, First Christian Church or Pawnee City Fire Department.
