Gene Hart Obituary

Gene Patrick Hart of Burchard passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at his home with his family by his side.  He was born August 5, 1940 in Pawnee City, Nebraska to Ruben Emery Hart and Mary Ellen (Byrne) Hart.  He and his siblings grew up in the Burchard area.  Gene graduated from Burchard High School.  On his senior class sneak trip to the Ozarks, he met his future wife, Lorelei, who was also with her senior class on sneak trip.On November 6, 1960, Gene and Lorelei were united in marriage. They made their home in Topeka, KS where Gene worked as an apprentice forthe Atchison-Topeka-Santa Fe Railroad and police officer. Lorelei was a homemaker, and in 1961, they welcomed their first child, Natalie May, followed in 1964 by their only son, Gene Patrick "Pat" Hart II, and  their third child, Marie Ellen in 1965. In 1966, they moved their little family to Dewitt, NE to be closer to their extended families.  In 1970, Heather Joy completed their growing family.  Gene was active as a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #10000 (of St. Anthony Parish in Steinauer and Sacred Heart Parish in Burchard) and was an acolyte and also a church trustee. He had many interests including reading about and visiting historic battles and battlefields, tool and die making, watching and appreciating nature, watching westerns on television and learning more about his faith.From a young age, Gene enjoyed being outside, working with livestock, planting crops, and exploring nature, especially ant hills. This passion for learning  carried into his adult life.  He transitioned from farming to working as a foreman in the tool and die room at American Tool Company Inc. He retired in 1999.In retirement, Gene enjoyed attending the events of his grandchildren and visiting with family. He was never too busy to impart his life's wisdom on to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dad's love language included two phrases: "Call me when you get home." and "Say your prayers."He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorelei May (Aman) Hart, son, Gene Patrick Hart II, daughter-in-law, Rhonda Hart, infant brother, James Ruben Hart, brother-in-law Harry Moulden, mother, Mary Ellen (Byrne) Hart, father, Ruben Emery Hart Gene is survived by daughters Natalie (Mike) Sisco, Burchard, NE,  Marie (Charles) Pelton, Eagle River, AK, Heather (Duane) Johnsen, Sutherland, NE, grandchildren Amanda (Jeremiah) Gleim, Max, Deacon, and Gordon, Lincoln, NE, Maggie Sisco, Pawnee City, NE, Jerrod (Laura) Sisco, Layla and Owen, Burchard, NE, Susan (Nathan) Peoples, Burchard, NE, Lacy Lowery, McPherson, KS, Jake (Sara) Lowery, Chase, Noah, and Lily, McPherson, KS, Cierra Stephens, St. Louis, MO, Kyleigh Pelton, Mallory Pelton, Grant Pelton, Eagle River, AK, Harmon, Brock and Vivienne Johnsen, Sutherland, NE, sister-in-law and husband Debra (Wayne) Kort, Coaldale, CO, brother-in-law Ben Aman, Hastings, NE, sister Rose Moulden, Pawnee City, NE, brother and sister-in-law Larry and Eleanor Hart, Burchard NE, sister and brother-in-law Lela and Charles Sayward, Lincoln NE and numerous nieces, nephews and family. Mass of Christian burial 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Burchard, Nebraska with the Rosary at 9:30 a.m., at the church. Officiating Father Michael Christensen.Visitation on Friday, June 3, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 4-7 p.m., at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Interment at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Burchard, Nebraska. Memorials to family choice for later designation. Online condolences may be left at www.wherrymortuary.com.
