Frances "Fran" (Grof) Schmidt

Frances Margaret (Grof) Schmidt passed away on November 22, 2019 at the Johnson County Hospital.  Frances was born September 30, 1927 on a farm near Tecumseh to Thomas J. and Josephine C. (Farley) Grof.  She was united in marriage to George F. Schmidt at the St. Andrew's Catholic Church on September 26, 1959.  Her life was spent in Johnson County except for a time spent in San Diego and in Adams.  She attended school at Brush Hill #16, Tecumseh High School, and Business College in Lincoln.

She was employed by the Veteran's Administration in Lincoln and San Diego, Adams State Bank and Johnson County Medical Center before retiring.  Frances enjoyed working with the public, but farm life was her joy.  Any day you could find Frances out cutting trees, picking up and collecting rocks, running after anything George needed, going to garage sales, going to the casino,  playing cards and putting together puzzles.  She enjoyed volunteering at St. Andrew Catholic School very much.  She was a member of the St. Andrew Altar Society and a life long member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.  Frances had a kind word for everyone.  She will be missed tremendously by all who knew her.   

She is survived by son, George Schmidt and his wife Lisa of Tecumseh and daughter, Mary Boden and her husband Ronald of Hallam. Grandchildren, Jordan Schmidt and his wife Marissa, Nate Boden and his wife Stephanie, Josie Cockle and her husband Levi, Katie Boden and Tori Boden.  Great-Grandchildren Morgan Schmidt and Ryett Cockle.  Brother-in-Law Robert Schmidt and his wife Annora of Beatrice and Sister-in-law, Marge Schmidt of Lincoln and numerous nieces and nephews.

Fran is preceded in death by her husband, George (2-20-1999), son, Patrick, parents, Thomas and Josephine Grof, parents-in-law, George and Johanna Schmidt, brothers, Thomas Grof and his wife Rose and Joseph Grof and his wife Dori, brothers and sisters in law, Howard and Restina Rathe, Thees and Marie Wallman, Jack and Ellenora Besch, Art and Shirley Schmidt, Edwin and Norma Schmidt, John Schmidt and Arnold Schmidt.

Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska, with Father Craig Clinch officiating.

Family will greet from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  

Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Friday, November 29, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska. 

Memorials may go to the family’s choice.

Inurnment will be in the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska at a later date.
