Florence J. Wenzl was the ninth of eleven children born to Clarence and Anna T. (Christen) Wenzl. She was born May 19, 1940 on the homestead farm near Steinauer, Nebraska. She lived on the family farm until her health declined and she became a resident of Belle Terrace in Tecumseh and later Colonial Acres in Humboldt where she passed away April 2, 2023 at the age of 82 years. She and her sister Frances were long time roommates in the nursing homes.
Florence helped with housework and children when newborns arrived. She enjoyed gardening in the summer and during the winter time she did embroidery. In her earlier years she loved feeding cattle with her brother Ronnie and she took care of her parents when they became older and needed additional assistance. She enjoyed being outdoors, watching and listening to the birds. Florence dearly loved her cat “Harlie.”
She had some schooling in rural country school District #45 and then attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School through the eighth grade and graduated from Steinauer High School in 1958. She was a member of St. Ann’s Altar Society and sang with the St. Anthony’s Church Choir. Florence was also a member of the Society of the Little Flower of Jesus-St. Therese.
Florence was a loving sister and aunt to her extended family. She always had a smile on her face and dearly loved her Catholic faith. She will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her sisters Frances Wolken of Humboldt and Louise Kavanaugh of Omaha, brothers John (Kathleen) Wenzl of Lincoln and Robert (Ruth) Wenzl of Lincoln, sister-in-law Marcia Wenzl of Tecumseh and numerous nieces and nephews.
