Evelyn Josephine (Mach) Pettinger

Evelyn Josephine Pettinger 104, of Pawnee City, Nebraska passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023 at the Pawnee City Assisted Living.  She was born on January 30, 1919 to Gustav and Josephine (Uhlir) Mach in DuBois, Nebraska.

Evelyn received her first 8 years of education in a country school called Prairie Star.  She then continued her education at DuBois High School, where she graduated in 1936.

She remained at home helping her parents on the farm.  She occasionally worked in some homes in Pawnee City.

Evelyn married Richard Pettinger on August 14, 1946.  To this union three sons were born, Ronald, Larry (died at birth) and Ross. They continued living on the farm, until their retirement in 1982.  After their retirement they moved into a home in Pawnee City.  Richard passed away on October 3, 1995.

Evelyn had a lot of hobbies, she loved to crochet for her self and others.  She especially loved crocheting hangers.  She enjoyed her flowers, Czech music, dancing and playing cards. Evelyn loved to collect salt and pepper sets of shaker, she had over 1,000 set of shakers.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burchard, Nebraska, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Western Fraternal Life Association, and Summit Club (Card Group).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Josephine, husband Richard, infant son, Larry, son, Ross, daughter-in-law, Susan Pettinger.

She is survived by her son, Ronald Pettinger of Eagle, NE, grandsons, Bob Pettinger and fiancé Marla Bartlett of Omaha, NE,  Brian (Saira) Pettinger of Lincoln,  Casey Pettinger of Lincoln, NE  and great grandson Jacob Pettinger  of Omaha, NE and many close relatives.

Mass of Christian burial 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Burchard, Nebraska with Father Michael Christensen officiating.  Rosary will be recited 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2023. Visitation on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 from 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m., at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Interment at the Pawnee City Cemetery. Memorials to Pawnee Assisted Living, Pawnee City, Nebraska.

Funeral Rites Pawnee City VFW Auxiliary Post #5289 and Pawnee City American Legion Auxiliary Post #168, at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2023.
