Elmer LeRoy Bilslend was born December 12, 1950 to LeRoy and Helen (Brown) Bilslend in Grand Island, Nebraska. He grew up in Wood River and graduated from Wood River High School. He enjoyed woodworking, playing softball, listening to music & watching sports, especially Nebraska football and Chicago Cubs baseball.
Elmer worked for the packing plant in Gibbon for many years and later for Sam’s Club Warehouse in Omaha. When his health declined, he became a resident of Belle Terrace in Tecumseh, NE. He passed away there June 11, 2019 at the age of 68 years.
He is survived by his sons, James Bilslend and wife Tina of Blair, Trevor Bilslend and wife Kandi of Cook, and Tom Bilslend of Omaha, daughter, Michelle Parham and husband Pete of Elgin, SC, grandchildren, Jake Speicher, Megan Carlson, Brooke, Alyssa, and A.J. Bilslend, Lydia and Lily Bilslend, Kayla Leake and Karsyn, Isabelle and Madisyn Lockhart, Cassandra Hellard, Stephen and Kelsey Parham, six great-grandchildren, brothers, Stan Bilslend and wife Donna of Wood River, Willie Bilslend and wife Linda of Cozad and Jerry Bilslend and wife Dot of Shelton, sisters, Judy Beck and husband Lyle of Kearney and Janet Berry of Osceola and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents LeRoy and Helen Bilslend and nephew Brian Bilslend.
Services will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, Wood River, NE. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time of service on Thursday at First United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be given to the family’s choice with a later designation. Apfel Funeral Home, Wood River, is in charge of the service.
