Eldora Wellensiek Obituary

Eldora Lena (Damme) Wellensiek, 100, of Adams, Nebraska, formerly of Tecumseh, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Gold Crest Nursing Home in Adams.  Eldora was born on July 17, 1921 and raised on a farm south of Cook, Nebraska.  She was the fourth child of Julius and Emma (Niebrugge) Damme. Eldora was baptized August 31, 1921 and later confirmed at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ (Osage). She attended District #21 Stony Point School through the 8th grade.   Eldora then helped on the farm and worked in Cook for Elvo Pratt’s Grocery Store and Produce.  She married Harold Wellensiek on September 20, 1946 at the Osage Church.  The couple made their home in Tecumseh where they lived their entire life.

Harold and Eldora started out hauling cream and eggs and later owned and operated Tecumseh Transfer for over 38 years.  Eldora would do bookwork and answer the phone.  In earlier years, they enjoyed square dancing and later on going out to eat and dance on Saturday nights. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh and was recording secretary for many years.  She enjoyed meeting with the quilting ladies a couple times a week at church and made many beautiful quilts.  She was a 35 year breast cancer survivor.  Harold and Eldora were married for 63 years. Harold passed away September 19, 2009.  She continued to live at home and enjoyed watching her game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and playing Solitaire and Rummy in her free time.   Eldora loved cheering on the Kansas City Royals and Huskers and any other sports.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Linda and Dan Lueders of Elk Creek, granddaughter Christine Wellensiek and special friend Jake Hesson of Lincoln, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Eldora was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, sisters, Edna (Fred Schweppe and Vernon) Earl and Esta (Bill) Behrens, brothers, Elmer (Marie) Damme and Eldon (Margaret Ann) Damme.
