Edus Harder Obituary

Edus Ann (Deubler) Harder  was born October, 29, 1930 to Albert and Anna (Rohrs) Deubler in rural Rohrs, Nebraska.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was confirmed March 25, 1945 at the American Lutheran Church in Adams, Nebraska.   Edus and her family moved several times while she was growing up.  She graduated from Lewiston High School with normal training,  and then took 3 summers at Peru State College in teacher training.  Edus taught several years in country schools.

She was united in marriage to Max Harder on August 5, 1951 at the American Lutheran Church in Adams, Nebraska.  Max and Edus made their home on a farm outside Crab Orchard, Nebraska to which three children were born, Barbara Ann, William Max, Bruce Leon.  Max died March 14, 2001, a little more than four months before their 50th wedding anniversary.

Edus was a homemaker and farm wife until her children grew up and then worked in housekeeping at Martin Luther Home (later Mosaic) in Beatrice, Nebraska for many years. Max and Edus were longtime members of the American Lutheran Church in Filley, Nebraska. 

She was a member of Helping Hand in Crab Orchard and served on the Crab Orchard town board for several years.  Edus loved to sew, made blankets for each of her children and grandchildren, sewed quilt tops for World Relief through her Filley church, cooked many meals for family gatherings, gardening and raising flowers.   Edus had a sweet, gentle personality and will be remembered for her beautiful smile.   

When her health declined, Edus moved to Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams, Nebraska.  She passed away April 9, 2020 at the age of 89 years.  She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. 

Edus is survived by daughter, Barb Fitzgerald (Robyn) of Lincoln, sons, Bill Harder (Sarah) of Crab Orchard and Bruce Harder of Beatrice, grandchildren Jocelyn (Amanda) Fitzgerald, Ashley (Carlos) Risueno, Max (Andrea) Harder, Jamie Harder, Elizabeth (Dustin) Rohr, Bobbie ( Kevin) Bean, Danni Harder, Erin Burd, Luke (Heather) Burd, Lydia (Jon) Paulson, Joey (Jeremy) Burd  great-grandchildren Mariah and Makayla Sears, Carlos and Elsie Risueno, Noah and Emma Harder, Bristol, Kinsley, and Hadley Rohr, Chloe, Carter and Charles Paulson, Bentley, Brennan, and Bristol Burd, and Lynn and Forrest Burd, nieces and nephews, Jay Harder, Janet (David) Newmyer, Jeff Harder, and Alan Wehmer.

She was preceded in death by husband Max, parents Albert and Anna Deubler, brother Allard Deubler, brother-in-law Byron Harder, and sisters-in-law Ina June Swanson and Janet Crosier, son-in- law, Gary Fitzgerald and grandson Levi Burd. 

Celebration of Life Service : 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at the American Lutheran Church in Filley, Nebraska with Pastor LuRae Hallstrom officiating. 

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the service will be posted to Facebook Live.  Please go to the American Lutheran Church - Filley or Wherry Mortuary/Wherry Monument Facebook pages to the join the service remotely.  

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Crab Orchard Cemetery, Crab Orchard, Nebraska.  Attendees will be asked to remain in their vehicles and the service will be available by radio broadcast.  

Memorials may go to the family's choice.
